OFFICE PARTITIONING

Office partitioning is the construction of office work stations in a partly enclosed workplace, separated from neighboring work spaces by solid walls.

Importance of partitioning

3.     Allows future expansion since its more flexible and cheaper to install than concrete walls.

Classification

1.      According to height:

·         Full height- this runs from the floor to the ceiling usually 2.5-3 meters

·         Dwarf wall-may be fixed or portable

2.      According to material used

·         Gypsum board partitioning

Gypsum boards can be used to create wall partitioning. Together with gypsum channels and paint, they can be used to recreate a wall compartment or as a continuation of a true wall. Gypsum boards come in gauges ranging from 9mm suitable for ceiling, 12mm for wall and the rare 18mm for wall partitioning as well.

However, gypsum boards are not to come into contact with water as they get spoilt

·         Glass-Aluminum partition

Its mainly glass and aluminum profiles. Aluminum frame gives the partition more stability     and strength

It’s very advantageous since it allows easy monitoring of employees and more natural light to get in

·         MDF-Aluminum partitioning

Here three materials are used that is: Glass, mdf and aluminum.

Mdf used provides privacy while glass allows more light to get in

·         MDF-Aluminum partitioning

Here we use mdf and aluminum only. It’s mainly used where total privacy is required e.g. boardrooms, and consultation rooms. Where sound proof is needed, double glazing may be done

Glass only partition

Can be made from glass, with aluminum, chrome inches and spanners.

It is advantageous since it allows easy monitoring of employees and allows more natural light to come in.

·         Accordion Walls

They are similar to portable partitions as they can be moved around except that they provide full enclosure just like floor-to-ceiling partition hence that can be termed as an advantage. They can also be re-arranged either by closing them or unfolding them out of the panels.
